Hosted by The American German Club of The Palm Beaches, This Oktoberfest Is a Must-Attend

Celebrate German heritage without leaving The Palm Beaches! The American German Club of The Palm Beaches proudly hosts its time-honored Oktoberfest, kicking off this Friday, October 11th at 7:30 p.m.

Next, to the Christmas tree, Oktoberfest is the most popular custom Germany – or, more correctly, Bavaria – has ever exported to the rest of the world. In the same spirit of the Bavarian Oktoberfest, dine on authentic meals of bratwurst, schnitzel and all foods German. Sip imported and domestic beers, schnapps, and a fine selection of wines. Listen to continuous entertainment by two Oktoberfest bands direct from Germany, as several international dance groups perform international entertainment from around the world.

This year’s Oktoberfest celebration features a traditional yet modern Bavarian atmosphere, authentic German meals, beer and bratwurst booths, a biergarten, family-friendly entertainment for the kids with arts and crafts and games, vendor displays, souvenirs, and continuous live entertainment provided by two bands direct from the Munich Oktoberfest. And don't forget – German attire is not required, but it certainly does make the celebration more interesting.

Oktoberfest began on October 12, 1810, with the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig, who later became King Ludwig I. His marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen was celebrated in Bavaria. On October 17, five days after the marriage, a large fest was held in front of the Sendlinger Tor, one of the gates leading to Munich. Included in the festivities were horse races that became an Oktoberfest custom lasting until 1938. In 1811 an agricultural fair was added and by 1818 beer pubs were included along with performers. It became a great tourist attraction and a way for visitors to learn about Bavaria and its people.
